Planning for Berks County’s Future
The Berks County Planning Commission serves as the area-wide planning organization for Berks County. The Commission provides a regional blueprint for land use, transportation, and community facilities. It assists local units of government with development and preservation activities and provides guidance to the Berks County Board of Commissioners and other departments of county government.
The Commission and its professional staff also serve as community advisors for modern planning practices and advocates for sound regional growth management. Finally, since the Commission is involved with a range of activities with a number of partners, it plays a very important coordinating role in community development issues and projects.

Imagine Berks Comprehensive Plan
The County’s New comprehensive plan is underway. In 2025, an extensive outreach effort was conducted to gather feedback from residents and partners that will inform the goals and policies in the plan. To learn more about the Imagine Berks Comprehensive Plan, click on the button below.
Long Range Transportation Plan
The Reading Area Transportation Study (RATS) is the metropolitan planning organization for the County of Berks. RATS is required to complete a Long Range Transportation Plan by federal transportation planning legislation, which provides context and detail to support and fund future transportation projects. The LRTP addresses how we can meet the expectations for Berks County’s transportation system over a 20-year period.

Subdivision and Land Development Dashboard
The Subdivision and Land Development Dashboard is an interactive online tool to provide information about the subdivision and land development plans received and reviewed by the Berks County Planning Commission (BCPC).
The information on the dashboard represents plans reviewed and received by the Planning Commission from 2024 to present day. We invite you to visit the dashboard to learn more about the land development projects happening throughout the county.
